On Jul.31, the International Olympic Committee declared that Beijing, China won the right to host 2022 Winter Olympics, and thus Beijing has become the first city that will have hosted the Summer Olympic Games and the Winter Olympics. Recently, good news came from Beijing OriginWater that its subsidiary Beijing Jiuan Investment Group Co., Ltd. (“Beijing Jiuan” for short) won the bidding for a number of projects in Chongli County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei where the Winter Olympics is to be held. These projects include sewage treatment projects, road engineering and municipal auxiliary projects of tourist resorts. OriginWater also became the first enterprise to provide environmental services for both 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

The Letter of Acceptance states that Beijing Jiuan has won the bidding for a sewage treatment project (Phase I) in Chongli County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei, Wutong Avenue municipal project, municipal auxiliary projects of Genting Resort Secret Garden, etc., and the total bid price for all projects is RMB 129,000,000. The projects involved include a number of projects in Chongli County, Zhangjiakou where the Winter Olympics snow sports event is to be held: road engineering, water supply engineering, sewage engineering, portable reclaimed water project, rainwater project, communication (pipeline) engineering, electric power (pipeline) project, bridge engineering, traffic engineering, road affiliated facilities, sewage treatment plant, etc.

Beijing has a temperate monsoon climate, its average maximum temperature in February from 2000 to 2012 was 6℃; the average minimum air temperature was -5℃; and average precipitation was only 5.1 mm, which makes it the most “thirsty for water” among the recent 15 host countries. According to a statement from the Beijing delegation applying for Winter Olympics, “During peak hours of Beijing Winter Olympics’ ski resort, artificial snow-making will be used to make up for natural snowfall, where the water consumption for snowmaking shall not exceed 1% of the local water supply.” During this time, OriginWater will use independently-developed MBR technology to treat the household wastewater in Zhangjiakou Olympic Village up to level-IV standard of surface water before it is discharged; then, OriginWater is likely to use ultra-low pressure selective nanofiltration (DF) membranes to further treat the discharged class-IV surface water to class-II, for snowmaking facilities to make white snow and ice.

It is known that, during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, OriginWater played a primary role in water environment treatment by providing a full range of solutions, such as water quality purification and water ecosystem protection for key national water environment treatment projects, such as Beijing Olympic Dragon-shaped Water System, National Grand Theater, and “Wenyu River to Chaobai River” Interbasin Water Transfer Project, fully embodying the concept of “Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics, People’s Olympics”.

With the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing, OriginWater will continue to strive as the backbone of China’s environmental protection industry, fully participate in water environment protection and water ecological restoration in Winter Olympics venues like Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, and properly serve this Winter Olympics with innovative water treatment technology.
