OriginWater Double-membrane New Water Process Shows up at “12th Five-Year Plan” Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements Exhibition

At the “12th Five-Year Plan” National Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements Exhibition on Jun.1, 2016, as a major scientific and technological achievement in the “12th Five-Year Plan” water project, OriginWater’s “MBR+DF” double-membrane new water process water treatment technology was on exhibit in the “Major Special Projects” exhibition area and the “Regional Innovation” exhibition area in the Beijing Hall. 

The water project is short for “major special project of water pollution control and management technology”, and is an important component of the national key Sci & Tech Special Projects during the 12th Five-Year Plan. OriginWater took the lead in undertaking two research subjects of the water project: “MBR sewage treatment membrane material and membrane separation complete equipment development and industrialization” and “high-quality reclaimed water and water purification complete equipment R&D and industrialization”. 

In the past five years, OriginWater has successfully broken down the technical barriers of several developed countries, mastered the world’s most advanced MBR membrane material preparation methods and developed the world’s first ultra-low pressure selective nanofiltration (DF) membrane, which, combined with MBR treatment processes well-established in the field of sewage treatment, has formed OriginWater’s unique “MBR + DF” double-membrane new water process, enabling China to occupy a commanding lead in the development strategies of water environment protection and management. 

It is known that the first step of the double-membrane new water process is to use MBR treatment technology. At present, the highest national standard of municipal sewage treatment is first grade A, which is equivalent to level-V surface water, and MBR-treated water quality is above the first grade A standard, and most of the indicators reach the level-IV standard of surface water. What’s more, there is low sludge yield and less secondary pollution. In terms of investment cost, per-ton of water investment cost of MBR process is equal to traditional methods, and its operating cost per-ton of water is only 0.1 yuan/ton higher than the traditional. 

The second step of the double-membrane new water process is to use DF membrane technology. The pore diameter of DF membrane is 1 nm, 1/50 the size of a strand of hair, and it can treat MBR’s effluent water to surface water of class II; while effectively removing heavy mental ions, dissolved organic matters, colloids, bacteria and viruses. Also, it can selectively retain the mineral substances beneficial to human body. 

In 2014, Haidian District, Beijing took the lead in applying this innovative technology by introducing OriginWater’s “MBR + DF” double-membrane new water process to the Beijing Cuihu New Water Plant, substantially improving the cyclic utilization efficiency and water environment carrying capacity of water resources in this region, and became OriginWater’s demonstration project where its scientific research achievements were practically applied. At present, this double-membrane new water process water treatment technology is being vigorously promoted nationwide, and can become a strategic technological choice for solving China’s pollution-induced water shortage problem.
