On Jun.15, Midea - a top white goods producer, and OriginWater - a leading listed water enterprise, held a strategic cooperation press conference in Shanghai, announcing to jointly promote the “state-of-the-art” membranes independently developed by OriginWater, namely “ultra-low pressure, large-flux” DF nanofiltration membrane and “high-flux, high-desalination-rate” reverse osmosis (RO) membrane. It is reported that these two kinds of membranes are the most suitable for purifying the water in China, and have successfully achieved large-scale application in Midea’s high-end water purifiers. As two giants in respective fields, the two companies have made an alliance, ending in one blow imported membranes long period of monopolization of the high-end water purifier market, while demonstrating to the world the innovation force of Chinese membranes.
In recent years, people are paying more attention to drinking water pollution in China. It has been found that, before being human consumption, the drinking water needs to pass through five lines of defense: 1. water sources, 2. waterworks, 3. water supply networks, 4. the residential quarter’s water storage environment and finally, 5. water taps. The first four lines of defense have different levels of risk, and only the last couple can be controlled by consumers through water purifiers. In such a condition, membrane material is a key element that affects a water purifier’s water quality. Now high-end water purifier membrane materials’ dependence on imports is a thing of the past.
OriginWater boasts the world’s largest headquarters for membranes’ and water-purifying products’ R&D and manufacturing, and is the membrane technology enterprise that has the most complete product series and the largest production capacity in China. Its core technologies include microfiltration, UF, nanofiltration, and RO membrane.
Among them, OriginWater’s ultra-low pressure selective nanofiltration (DF) membrane is the world’s first of its kind. It possesses “ultra-low pressure, large-flux” characteristics, is capable of the reclamation of wastewater back into source water, the efficient removal of LMW organic pollutants and selective removal of harmful ions, and has been widely used in the fields of wastewater-based reuse and safe drinking water. This technology is one of China’s biggest breakthroughs made in the field of utilization of wastewater as resources, as a “state-of-the-art” technology, it has been entered into the “12th Five-Year Plan” National Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements Exhibition which was held recently.
At present, OriginWater’s second self-designed RO membrane and DF membrane production line with an investment of over RMB 100 million and an annual output of 6,000,000 m² has been put into operation, and its production efficiency and intelligent control technology has reached a world first-class level. OriginWater’s RO membrane has a high flux and high desalination rate, and its desalination rate can vary between 0 - 99.86% according to actual demands.
In order to quickly promote large-scale application of OriginWater’s self-designed, developed and produced membranes and membrane elements to Midea water purifiers and other products, the two sides will set up Shunde “OriginWater•Midea Joint R&D Center”, where OriginWater will be capable of, according to Midea’s demands in domestic and overseas market, quickly begin the mass production of related membrane elements.
